Elephants Destroy the Maize Farm at New Dawn Tanzania

By Emmanuel Felix
Student Reporter
New Dawn Secondary School

Summary:

Looking at them in the national park is so wonderful but when it comes to their destruction it is so bad. The presence of elephants from the Mkomazi national park found in Samé district is still a problem in our school.
Being near to the Mkomazi national park, our school is facing a problem of elephant’s invasion. The elephants have been coming in our school to search for water and pasture. Elephants are using maize and vegetables as their food. Early this month our school was invaded by the group of elephants at night. These elephants were searching food. They entered in the school farm which was well flourished. They ate more than acre of maize which was expected to be the part of school food for the students
This becomes among the big losses in our community because the elephants brought destruction in the farm which could help us in the area of food. It is so bad also because it has brought the loss since a lot of money was used to run the farm.
On the side of the government, Tanzania government has continued to give education on how to chase and avoid the elephants to the people found in the areas which are always highly affected by elephant’s invasion. The government is also giving instruments which are used to chase the elephants such as vuvuzela and dynamite because elephants dislike noises.
The citizens are still complaining about the elephant’s problem since the money refunded through the loss they got is not enough as it doesn’t meet the cost used to run the farm. On our side we say that this is very bad because the animals have brought big loss in our school and it threaten our life.

New Dawn Choir Defends Its Championship Again

in the Kilimanjaro region

By Joshua Mshana
Student Reporter
New Dawn Secondary School

Summary:

The best choir in the region
Being the best choir in the region of Kilimanjaro as the winners of the UMISSETA competitions last year, our choir continues to be the best choir in Kilimanjaro Region as this year they have won the trophy again in Umisseta competitions for Tanzanian Secondary Schools.
UMISSETA competitions are the contests for secondary schools which are done in Tanzania every year. The competitions are done to find the talented students in various areas of sports and games starting from district up to national level. In each level the best ones are chosen to continue with higher levels. Our school, New Dawn participates in the competitions for athletics, football, netball, volleyball and singing.

Some Members of Traditional Dance In singing, our school choir which is the best choir in the district this year represented our district in regional competitions of UMISSETA. The competitions went well as our choir, which was the winner last year, defended its championship by winning again as the best choir in Kilimanjaro region.

Winning in the region gives the them the chance of proceeding with another level of competing in the national level competitions which will be held in Iringa region the month of June. It is our hope that our choir will do well and will come with the victory.

On other hand, our school won in music and traditional dances. Our two musicians Aloyce Methusela and Jephta Japhet became the winners our group of traditional dance. They also became the winners in the entire region so they are going to represent our region in the national level of Umisseta competitions.

The Recent Shortfall Was Met and Even Exceeded -

The last few months have been a struggle with our funding. The culmination of this shortfall came on Saturday morning, May 17th. Our director in Tanzania sent this brief but sobering message in response to my apologies for the lack of funds:

“Thank you Pastor. We are praying for miracles. Our food store is empty. After Monday there will be not anything to cook for the students.”

As I was preparing to purchase our plane tickets for our summer trip to New Dawn, I realized that the obvious priority was the students, not my visit. So, we decided to send the $4,000 trip funds to meet this critical need. It seemed right to let some of our other core supporters know about this need.
I sent this message:

“Dear Family,

I heard from our director this morning and I felt like I needed to let our board members, and team of volunteer staff and intercessors know about our real need…”

In response to this message, we received over $20,000. This outpouring of funds not only avoided the crisis, but also met our May shortfall, as well as providing our funding commitment for June.
Having experienced such a compassionate and sacrificial response, we are now praying that God will move in all our hearts to consider making a financial commitment to this vital ministry to ensure that our students and staff have what they need to finish 2025.

NDC Presentation Trip in Napa, California - May 2025

Over the years there have been some churches who have consistently supported New Dawn. First Christian Church in Napa, California has been one of the most faithful supporters. Way back in 2002, our director from Kenya, Pastor James Kariuki came to USA and was invited to share the ministry that we were doing in East Africa with this church. Since then, the church has continued to support New Dawn Communities through finances, sending team members on trips and allowing us to regularly come and share the progress being made through their support.

Our president, Ron Sukut, and his wife Diane had yet another very successful trip there, meeting with long time and newer supporters. Three presentations were made:

    • Friday evening at former director Mark and Kathy Luce’s home
    • Sunday morning service at First Christian Church
    • Monday evening with the FCC Global Mission Team at Cathy and Jeff Erikson’s home.

We were able to distribute many New Dawn t-shirts, booklets, and magnets during the different presentations. Each gathering was a wonderful opportunity to share about the significant effect New Dawn is having in and through their communities. The smaller meetings allowed for even more detailed dialogue about how best to support New Dawn.
A tremendous blessing came to New Dawn through the church’s special outreach offering collected during the Easter services.

We were also very encouraged by a generous gift made by a family who provided funds to install a natural gas system. This clean fuel will be used for cooking in the kitchen, as well as for fueling chemistry experiments in our laboratory. This fulfills a delayed compliance requirement placed upon New Dawn by the Dept of Education, which prohibits cutting down trees on our campus to use as cooking fuel.

The support supplied by these faithful friends at this time provides essential resources for our students and staff during these lean days of charitable giving.

Thank you Pastor Allen, for opening your heart and ministry, as you lead the church in fulfilling the Great Commandment, as well as the Great Commission.

New Dawn Secondary Pioneer Class Starts Advanced Level Examination.

By Emmanuel Felix
Reporter
New Dawn Secondary School

Summary:

The dreams for the first Form Four class of New Dawn Secondary, Tanzania, are nearly to
come true as this year, October 2025, they will start university studies.

Early this week on Monday, the advanced level examinations in Tanzania for the form six commenced. It is an examination that is done to test the students before they enter University level. The students are required to pass the examination so that they can get the marks that will enable them enter in the University.

It should be remembered that 19 students from Pioneer class of 2019 were selected to join the advanced level (form five and form six) so this month they are finishing this level and remained 15 students were selected in the colleges. Many them have dreams of becoming doctors, engineers, pilots, teachers etc., so few years to come there will be professional people in different sectors from our school.

The last Sunday (May 4th) was a good day which was used to pray for our lovely pioneer students who are in examination this month. The school director Bishop, Dr. Stephen Mshomi is the one who led the New Dawn Chapel in prayers of dedicating them into the hands of God because their success is also our success as a community of New Dawn as we will start reaping from the seed we planted.

We believe that with the help of God they will do great as the Bible says in Psalms 60:12 “With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies”

A Personal Message from Ron Sukut

Beloved Family,

What a challenging and exciting month it has been. The last few months, we have been about $10,000 short of our commitment to our New Dawn Community in Tanzania.
While the team in Tanzania has been very enduring and patient, we approached a new level of urgency with a recent message from Bishop Stephen:

“Thank you Pastor Ron.
We are praying for miracles. Our food store is empty.
After Monday there will not be anything to cook for the students.”
Any ideas?

Diane and I immediately volunteered to send $4,000, which was our personal trip funds. We believe feeding the students is a higher priority than traveling to Tanzania this Summer. We then passed along Stephen’s request for “Any Ideas” to a small group of dedicated supporters. The results were miraculous.

– – – –

Your compassionate gifts amounted to a little over $20,000.

We were able to send the $10,000 balance of our May Support that very week while securing essential support for June as well.

The students saw their prayers answered and were provided for by their family in the USA.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink…’

‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ ” Matthew 32:34-40

– – – –

You all proved to be the hands and feet of Jesus this week. While calling forth this beautiful outpouring of support, this emergency also made it clear to the board that we need to do something different so that we don’t find ourselves in this position again.

Twenty years after the foundations for the first New Dawn Community in Kenya were laid, I am pleased to announce that my son Jordan, who has previously served in board and advisory roles, has agreed to step in as interim director to help guide the transition of New Dawn Communities towards a more sustainable future. As a rising generation steps up to take the torch and run this race with New Endurance, I pray you will join me in helping to secure the ongoing resources and support that this transition will take to succeed.

God’s grace has brought us safe thus far, and His grace will lead us home.

On behalf of our New Dawn students and staff in Tanzania, Kenya, and the US,

Thank You!

Summer 2025 Mission Trip to New Dawn Community Tanzania -

Postponed and Accelerated

TanzaniaIn light of these events and the reallocation of resources, we will be postponing the team mission trip this summer. However – Jordan is planning to travel to Kenya and Tanzania solo as soon as resources permit to put boots on the ground, meet with students, staff, and alumni. He will begin to assess next steps towards an exciting new season. As the Lord leads and resources allow, we will reschedule the next team trip for later in 2025 or summer 2026.

A Final Call

We can only do this together. If you have any ideas, gifts, talents, or resources you would like to contribute at this crucial moment, we would love to hear from you.

Love and blessings,

The New Dawn Team.

New Dawn Kenya

New Dawn Community USA Board of Directors member, Mark Luce reports that New Dawn Communities (NDC) Kenya has new leadership. The new Kenya Board Of Directors includes School Alumni that have returned to “Give Back” to the new generation of students.

In March NDC Kenya was invited, along with 10 other schools, to the “Weekend Challenge” by the host school Kenya Students Christian Fellowship.

The weekend challenge was designed around the theme “Walking in Obedience

Be doers of the word and not hearers only . . .

James 1:22

divider

Under this theme the following topics were discussed:

    1. Transformative Leadership
    2. Sexual Purity
    3. Salvation
    4. Drugs and substance Abuse
    5. Academic Excellence and Career Development
    6. Youth and Social Media
    7. Discipline and Evangelism

The presence of the Holy Spirt was experienced during the entire weekend with several achievements and miracles being witnessed by the attendees.

    1. Rededication of the Host Schools Prayer Garden to GOD
    2. Salvation for over 100 attendees – 60 from the host school and 40 other attendees dedicated their lives to God, accepted Jesus as their savior, and were “Born Again”.
    3. Deliverance! 50 New Dawn Kenya students were delivered from bondage. 100 students from the other 10 schools joined the NDC students during the Sunday Rally.
    4. Discipleship – A new class was started by the new converts that received the Lord during the weekend to help them grow spiritually.
    5. Boosting the morale of the students during the weekend with one-on- one counseling for students who have lost hope. They had low esteem and were performing poorly at their schools. The students left motivated and refocused on achieving their dreams.

Challenges were met and discussed. The Local School Administration Team focused on calling every student to Jesus Christ.

The Weekend Challenge ended very powerfully with the presence of God so real. Both the missionaries and students lives were transformed. Glory to God!

THE NEW DAWN CHOIR PERFORMS IN LAUNCHING OF THE SAME-MWANGA-KOROGWE WATER PROJECT

By Hawa Kilagani
Reporter
New Dawn Secondary School

Summary:
Being among the best choirs in Kilimanjaro region, New Dawn secondary school choir has made another history by singing in the big government event of launching of the Same- Mwanga- Korogwe water project which was officially launched by the Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan.”

On March 9, 2025 it was another marvellous day for our school’s choir. Our choir was invited to perform in the launching of the big water project called Same- Mwanga- Korogwe Project. The launching event was attended by our president Honourable Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan who officially launched the project. There were also other government ministers, Regional commissioners and other leaders.

The Same-Mwanga- Korogwe project will provide approximately 51.65 million liters of water to people across the three districts of Same, Mwanga and Korogwe by ensuring better access to clean water.

As the community we are so much excited and we thank God to see our choir developing. We can remember last year, we were invited to sing in the World Tree Planting Day whereby the guest of honour was the vice President of Tanzania, Dr. Phillip Mpango.

We thank our God so much for the favour he gave us.

Tanzania Update from New Dawn USA

In a recent video call with NDC USA Director Ron Sukut, Bishop Dr. Steven Mshomi, director of New Dawn Community in Tanzania, shared his praise for God’s favor that continues to cover the school, students, teachers and staff.

NDC Tanzania has been recognized and included with other private schools as well as State Government schools in the district to meet regionally. They have received academic and sports honors.

  • The Youth have Aced their Midterms:  The Mid-Year exams taken by the 38 Form 4 students (seniors) are complete with 75% of the students receiving an A grade.

  • The Government is ‘Recognizing’ our Nationally Ranked Instructors: Two teachers that have continued to show superior results at NDC Tanzania with their students. They have now been recruited to become State teachers for the Tanzania Government. This is due to their high standards in Math and Agriculture. While they will be missed by NDC this is a blessing for the county of Tanzania.

  • Our Choir Won at the Regional Competitions: The student choir has been recognized as the top school choir in the region and continues to receive invitations to perform for both local and national events.

  • Our Sports Teams are strong as well: The Soccer and Basketball teams are also top ranked in the region with strong performances.

We would like to thank you, the Donors, for your continued spiritual and financial support. This is proof that your participation matters. Because of you, there have been many blessings showered on the orphan students, teachers and staff that work so hard, with what they have, to fulfill GOD’S  will in Tanzania!

The form one students are happy to see, join and be at New Dawn Secondary School because they were warmly welcomed with the other students, workers and teachers. The new students have already received the exercise books and the other basic requirements in order to start orientation. We thank GOD that we have received our new family members who have already started to show up their talents in various areas like sports as this weekend they played a football match against form two and our New Form one class won by six goals. The class is charming and energetic and we do believe that with the help of God they are going to do great.
